What does it cost?

That depends. For a simple group of pages on the World Wide Web, it can be just a few hundred dollars. A complex documentation set, including printed material and a comprehensive Help system, can cost thousands of dollars.

Contact us to get an estimate of the cost of your project. Our estimates are based on the complexity and size of the project and our extensive experience.

How long will it take?

A simple project on the World Wide Web can be done in less than a week. A complex documentation project can take months. You should contact us as soon as your project starts to find out how soon we need to be involved.

Does The WriteTeam do Java?

We can do all emerging technologies on the World Wide Web, including Java, JavaScript, multi-image (animated) GIFs, frames, server push, banners, and so forth. We also do traditional programming, including perl and other CGI. But do you really need to be on (and put your viewers on) the bleeding edge? Often the same effect can be accomplished with less expense using an existing technology. If you want your pages to be read by as many people as possible, you need to make sure each page is easily and quickly accessible. That means using the technology to accomplish your ends, not just because it's cool.

You've probably been to sites that are so full of wonderful glop that you couldn't even figure out what they were about, and were immediately ready to go on to another site, one that made sense. We don't make sites like that.

Except for specialized clients whose viewers can be assumed to have a specific browser, we recommend using basic HTML tags and writing for 640 x 480 screens with 256 colors, which is what the majority of people have today. We make sites look good with design, images, words, and easy navigation. For example, we believe that our pages get the message across with essentially any browser.

When most browsers support new technologies, we begin to use them. Note: On this site, for example, we use some animated GIFs that we designed to look good even if the browser does not support that technology.

What if I'm more than a thousand miles away from you?

Since you're reading this on the World Wide Web, you know that distance doesn't matter for many things. Our design and production process ensures you get what you want.

We start by getting a description of the project as well as any documents you already have. Then we talk with you (in person, on the telephone, or using NetMeeting) before we create anything.

When we think we understand what you need, we do a quick prototype. Then we wait for your comments. If you want changes, we make them and show you the updated prototype. We only do extensive work after you approve the prototype.

We find that the small amount of extra time that this process takes at the beginning makes projects run smoothly, even when working at a distance. Please contact us for more information.

What browser do you recommend?

Whatever you're currently using is probably fine. If you're not happy with it, consider these, both of which are free for the downloading.

Netscape Navigator from Netscape Communications, Inc.
The latest version, Netscape Communicators, adds lots of bells and whistles that you may or may not need.
Internet Explorer from Microsoft, Inc.
Microsoft's entry in the browser market. Be sure to use version 4.01 or higher. Version 3.0 was embarrassingly bad, and the original version 4.0 had some problems.
